Direct Action Drop In

Direct Action Drop-in

Saturday, November 19, 2016

59 East 4th Street, New York, NY

Join Shandaken this Saturday for group poster-making and community discussion about strategies of creative, nonviolent resistance and direct action planning. We will have art supplies for all to make posters and other ephemera, and will lead a conversation about how we as cultural practitioners might organize to respond to urgent issues on national and local fronts with complex, critical, aesthetic action. Through this conversation we hope to form some concrete next steps to organize future creative interventions in the public arena.

You may keep what you make at this event, or we will collect ephemera to hand out to the public in the future.

Shandaken stands in unwavering solidarity with people of color, Muslims, LGTBQIA folks, immigrants, the poor, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. This meeting is for artists and art workers of all political stances who believe that racism, misogyny, and other forms of hatred are despicable; that State violence is unacceptable; and that the first amendment is a critical tool in the fight for social justice.
