Shandaken Projects is pleased to announce a new limited edition artwork by Shandaken: Storm King 2019 resident Pallavi Sen. Garden School Theatre was made using the Risograph, a technology that combines digital and analog processes to produce a deluxe offset print, and which is the centerpiece of Shandaken's recently opened print studio on Governors Island. This 11-by-17-inch, signed and numbered edition is available exclusively through Shandaken at $348, or as a thank you gift for new members.

The work belongs to an ongoing series of Sen's images called "Garden School." Three years ago, the artist cultivated a meadow in Western Massachusetts, where she teaches, that was comprised of plants native to the area that are beneficial to local insects. Sen also created a vegetable garden nearby to supplement a local food pantry during Covid. Through gardening, Sen began to better understand plants and soil, becoming closer to seasonal change. She describes "Garden School" as a vision for a education in which curricula, pedagogical structures, architectural orientations, activities, and schedule are guided by a local growing season.

Garden School Theatre is a drawing of a particular day at this school, after a morning of harvesting beets, setting some time aside to make the backdrop for the season's play.
